Faculty Testing Information

Faculty Testing Information

Test requests must be submitted 3 business days in advance of the test date.

The Testing Center administers over 1500 tests each semester which requires an extensive amount of detail and organization. It takes time to coordinate with instructors and organize exams. When a student misses a deadline, it causes a disruption in the testing system, resulting in delays for students who followed the testing procedures.

When a student misses a test request deadline, the student must test in the classroom without accommodations unless the instructor is willing to accommodate; however, that is not a requirement of the instructor. Instructors are not able to approve a student to test at the Testing Center without prior discussion with the DRC Testing Coordinator. Exceptions are very limited.

Testing Policies and Procedures for Faculty

  • It is the student's responsibility to schedule tests with the DRC Testing Center.
  • The deadline to submit a test request is 3 business days prior to the test date. Students who miss the test request deadline will need to report to class to test without accommodations.
  • Test requests cannot be submitted until Notification Letters have been submitted.
  • The responsibility to ensure that students have scheduled tests for the correct date and time is the responsibility of the instructor. The instructor should review all test request submissions and notify the DRC and the student of discrepancies at least 2 days prior to the day of the test.
  • When an instructor receives a test request, there is a link to an electronic form where instructors will need to notify the DRC Testing Center of any rules and requirements for testing. If the DRC does not receive this information, we are not able to enforce it during testing. If testing circumstances change (ex. test date, test type, testing location), please notify the DRC office via email, phone, or in-person as soon as possible.
  • Tests need to be submitted to the DRC office by 9:00am no less than one-business day prior to the test date.
  • Tests can be delivered to the DRC office during office hours (M-F, 8am-5pm) or emailed to DRC-Testing@saffairs.msstate.edu.
  • If a student who receives testing accommodations arrives to class on a test day, please do not send the student to the Testing Center to test. The student has the option to test in the classroom without their accommodations. If they did not submit a test request, plan to have a test available for them in the classroom.
  • Bluebooks are not the responsibility of the DRC office. Please send bluebooks with the tests or have your students bring them to the DRC Testing Center.

Receiving a Student’s Test Request

When an instructor receives an email regarding a test request, the instructor should check the request to make sure everything is correct. The DRC office will not know whether the information submitted in the request such as test date, time, testing location, and testing format is accurate.

Students can begin submitting test requests as soon as they submit the Notification Letters for the course. The deadline for test requests is 3 business days in advance of the test request. If a student misses the deadline or chooses not to submit a test request, the instructor should have a test available for the student to test in the classroom.

Do not send students to the DRC to test if they missed a test request. Students with accommodations have the ability to choose when they want to use their testing accommodations. They must also abide by the test request deadline.

If the instructor has concerns about a test request or accommodations, contact the DRC Testing Center at 662-325-8513

Approving and Denying a Test Request Approving a Test Request

If you receive a test request and everything is accurate, visit the link to notify the Testing Center of any additional information needed for testing (i.e. use of notes, use of calculator, scantron)

Denying a Test Request

If a test request has been submitted incorrectly (i.e. wrong test date, wrong testing format, incorrect information in Notes), the instructor will need to email the student and copy the DRC to discuss changes. When changes are made, it is the responsibility of the student and instructor to relay all information to the Testing Center. Students do not have the ability to alter test requests once they have been submitted.

How to Accommodate a Test Request

Instructors can choose to have the student accommodated at the DRC Testing Center or in the classroom/office space. If a student’s testing accommodations include reduced distraction environment, it is recommended that they do not test in the classroom.

To calculate the student’s total test time with the extended-time accommodation:

Time and a half (1.5x): Length of the test (in minutes) x 1.5 = total test time

  • ex. 50 minute test will extend to 75 minutes. 50x1.5=75.
  • 90 minute test will extend to 270 minutes (2 hours and 15 minutes)

Double Time (2x): Length of the test (in minutes) x 2 = total test time

  • ex. 50 minute test will extend to 100 minutes. 50x2=100

Submitting a Test/Testing Instructions to the Testing Center

Once a student has submitted a test request, the instructor will receive an email notification from the DRC.

Paper Tests:

The instructor can either deliver the test to the DRC Testing Center or email it to DRC-Testing@saffairs.msstate.edu. If emailing a test, attach it to the student's test request or indicate the student's name, course information, and date/time of test when emailing the test. If there is important information that must be relayed to the student, please include it in a coversheet or instructions (ex. scantron, calculator, notes)

Do not use campus mail for test delivery.

Online Tests:

Students testing online can test in the DRC Computer Lab. If a password is required, send the password along with the student’s test request email to the DRC Testing Center at DRC-Testing@safairs.msstate.edu. It is also helpful to send the instructor’s contact information if troubleshooting is required.

If the student will be testing in the DRC computer lab and a password is required to access the test, email the password. Indicate the student, test, and date the Clearly state w with the submitted test request.

Calculating Extended Time

To calculate the student’s total test time with the extended-time accommodation:

Time and a half (1.5x): Length of the test (in minutes) x 1.5 = total test time

  • Ex. 50 minute test will extend to 75 minutes. 50x1.5=75.
  • Ex. 90 minute test will extend to 270 minutes (2 hours and 15 minutes)

Double Time (2x): Length of the test (in minutes) x 2 = total test time

  • Ex. 50 minute test will extend to 100 minutes. 50x2=100
